Thousand of Ravens fans line up to exchange Ray Rice jersey
The Baltimore Ravens parted ways with running back Ray Rice last week after a video showing him knocking out his then-fiancée was released to the public.
The team’s fans now also have the opportunity to cut ties with Rice as well, as the Ravens are allowing folks to exchange their No. 27 jerseys for another player of their choosing Friday and Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium.
Ravens officials won’t announce how many jerseys were exchanged until the two-day event is over on Saturday. But the line stretched the lengths of two football fields by Friday afternoon as thousands of people arrived for the first day of the exchange, according to the Baltimore Sun.
“What [Rice] did wasn’t right, and I don’t want to wear a jersey of someone who did something like that,” said Zachary Blankenship, 19, who was the first in line and planned to exchange his Rice jersey for that of kicker Justin Tucker.
If the stadium store runs out of any players’ jersey, fans who want that shirt will receive a voucher.
Adult NFL jerseys sell anywhere from about $100-$300.
“There’s a financial aspect to it,” said Ravens fan Jim Duncan, who arrived at the stadium around 6 a.m. Friday. “These are not cheap.” (Photo: Associated Press)
